Just a short drive from Woking rail station, in the quaint, picturesque village of Ottershaw, down a long winding tree lined drive, sits a stately, impressive Georgian manor that welcomes all visitors with warmth and class.

Foxhill’s Country Club is awe inspiring as the drive ends and guests are greeted by the enchanted Narnia like street lamps and tiny avenues lined with golf carts.

The reception is brisk and friendly, incredibly professional, fast and efficient, and within no time at all we were making our way round to our room. It seemed that every step impressed, as we followed the clear instructions to room 37, passing petite cottages before being greeted by a crystal clear pool. Our room was poolside, and the temperature of the water was inviting, not cold. We resisted temptation to take a dip immediately, and instead continued to explore our room.

As we opened the door, we were immediately content, it felt spacious and light, while a quick glance showed us we had garden access through double patio doors. The mini bar and kitchen area made it feel indulgent to make a cup of coffee as we settled down and surveyed our surroundings.

The fixtures and fittings were clean and comfortable and there was enough space to store all of our clothes and more. Every tiny touch had been thought of from a high-quality iron to a super speedy hair dryer, to luxury bathroom toiletries and fresh, free bottled water.

We relaxed for a short while before dressing for dinner, we had a booking for 7.30 and were due to try out the tasting menu in the Manor restaurant.

Amuse Bouche and Garlic Volute

The tasting menu was diverse and divine. There was quite a wait between courses but as this was a specially tended menu with an astute attention to detail it was warranted. Seated in the conservatory we really didn’t mind the pauses, as we had a great view of the grounds and golf course beyond.

We had a little explore in the dark before retreating to our room to rest in anticipation for a full spa day ahead.

The Signature Treatment

We were welcomed into the spa with friendliness and professionalism and taken to our treatment rooms for a signature treatment. As she washed and scrubbed my feet, my therapist asked me questions about my health so as best to suggest the right treatment for me. I was reassured that this wouldn’t cut into my treatment time at all and felt incredibly relaxed by the time I lay on the couch.

We’d agreed on a back, head and shoulders massage followed by a facial and head massage and I drifted away into a state of semi consciousness as my therapist used her expert hands to relieve me of my stress.

After the experience we were shown to a relaxation room where herbal tea and fruit were on offer. We took ten minutes to relax before changing into our swimsuits and taking a short amble towards the pool.

The steam room, the sauna, the heated pool, the Jacuzzi, were all incredibly clean, and heavenly. We whiled away hours chatting, floating, steaming, swimming and ventured outside to see the spa garden. The natural pool was closed due to newts making it their home, yet there was still a sauna and Jacuzzi to enjoy. An old telephone housed a direct line to the bar so visitors could order refreshments delivered direct to the garden.

The Nineteen Restaurant

After a quick change we took ourselves to the less formal Nineteen restaurant which hosted a menu of burgers and chips, nachos and potato skins. I opted for the tempura prawns, the mushroom risotto and the Eton Mess and every mouthful was just as delicious as the night before in the Manor Restaurant. The ingredients were obviously fresh and cooked to order, while the flavours burst in the mouth. I couldn’t decide on a favourite between the two but was grateful of a less formal dining experience for lunch.

In summary: Foxhill’s is a hotel that will stay with me for a long time. Every aspect was faultless and our stay was out of this world. It really is a special place to enjoy a luxury spa weekend with great food, excellent service and lovely rooms. We will return. Right now they are on our shortlist for our Hotel Awards and will be very hard to beat!
