Super foods have been a part of our lives for quite some time, however, we very rarely incorporate them into our lives. Yes, we may use greens and vegetables as a staple part of our diet, but some of the more unusual super foods don’t even make it on our shopping list, let alone into our daily meals.

There are of course ways you can incorporate some of the most popular super foods into your daily routine, without breaking the bank. Super foods have a multitude of benefits from increasing your vitamin C intake to reducing your blood pressure, they call them super foods for a reason after all!

Given the variety of super foods on the market it can be quite difficult to choose the right ones for your needs, however we have compiled a short list below of some of the most popular super foods with fantastic benefits.

Lemons

A single lemon contains up to 100% of the daily intake of vitamin C the human body requires, which in turn can help strengthen bones and even prevent the growth of certain cancer cells.

To incorporate lemon into your daily routine, why not add the juice and pulp from one lemon to a jug of water, that way you can enjoy all the benefits while staying refreshed throughout the day.

Dark Chocolate

Eating a small amount of dark chocolate daily can do more than tickle your taste buds, it can reduce your blood pressure too! Cocoa is rich in antioxidants, which have been shown to lower your cholesterol. So, the next time you reach for a chocolate bar, make sure it’s dark chocolate to reap the benefits.

Blueberries

These tasty berries are one of the most popular super foods and for very good reason too! The power of the juicy, nutrient rich blueberry is all in their colour. They can even boost your memory cells. Their high water content makes them the perfect addition to your diet, especially if you have dry skin, or are simply looking to boost the function of other cells in your body.

You can add a handful of blueberries to your morning yoghurt, or even have a few as a mid morning snack, however you choose to introduce blueberries into your diet one thing is for certain, you will be thankful that you did!

Broccoli

I’m sure we all know the importance of eating our greens, they can remove toxins from our body, increase our vitamin intake and much, much more! One of the most beneficial green vegetables is the humble Broccoli. With an abundance of vitamin K and approximately 200% of your daily vitamin C intake is also included in the stork of the broccoli. On top of all of this, it can also help prevent a variety of different cancers.

You can introduce broccoli into your diet by steaming it and topping it with a delicious, healthy ginger and lemon dressing.

The above are just a small selection of some of the most popular super foods, however we always recommend trying out new super foods, as you never know which ones will be suited to your tastes until you do.
