We all need an energy boost throughout the day, even the more motivated among us find we have a lull during mid afternoon.

We’ve found you ten quick and easy (often surprising) ways you can boost your energy levels today.

  1. Look in the Mirror

If you’re feeling demotivated take a look in the mirror. You will want to project your best face to yourself in order to please your own ego. This involves making your eyes wider, looking more alert and smiling, all ways to fool your mind into raising those energy levels and making you feel you’re ready for anything.

  1. Take in Some Scenery

The colour green is used in many offices, through the décor or the use of plants, for a reason. It stimulates the brain. If you’re lacking in energy take a walk in the park or look at a few pictures of something green!

  1. Unroll Your Shoulders

Often, when we feel tired or lacklustre, we roll our shoulders forward without thinking about our posture. If you unroll your shoulders, stand straight and lift your head high, you’ll instantly improve the blood flow around your body that will in turn increase your energy.

  1. Laugh a Little

Laughter releases endorphins that can give us a boost of energy while fighting pain naturally. Even fake laughter can promote these feelings of well being. Take five minutes to watch a clip of your favourite comedy or a cartoon online, you’ll instantly notice the benefits.

  1. Add Ice to your Drink

Ice is incredible as it can burn calories and make you more alert. It wakes your metabolism up as your body fights to regain your natural temperature. It’s also very refreshing and hydrating and most of us are often dehydrated without even realising it.

  1. Go Nuts

Nuts have essential fatty acids alongside protein. They release energy slowly and can help you sustain motivation throughout the day. Pick a nut you like and have a handful when your energy dips, your waistline will also thank you for it.

  1. Look at the Competition

On the surface, few of us like our competition in business, or life, as they can make us feel jealous but they are there for a reason and can often be our best motivation. Take a look at your competition to fuel the fire within you!

  1. Turn Down the Heating

Chris Evans of Radio 2 and Top Gear fame refuses to work in a warm studio as he claims it makes him feel lethargic. He keeps the air crisp to maximise motivation and it’s a tip many of us could benefit from.

  1. Sniff Something

There are many scents and essential oils that can wake up the brain and give you more energy. The most popular are rosemary, orange, lemon, black pepper and cinnamon.

  1. Take a Caffeine Nap

It takes 20 minutes for a cup of coffee to reach your system. Many workers in Japan use these 20 minutes to have a nap. They set an alarm and when they wake up the caffeine has done its job and they’re refreshed, motivated and ready!

Do you have any other tips to boost energy throughout the day? We’d love to hear them!
