YA fiction seems to be following a trend for the twenty twenties. In the twenty tens dystopian futures were all the rage with novels such as The Hunger Games, Divergent and Delirium, all trilogies (and beyond) that captivated teens and adults alike and placed them into the centre of a post-apocalyptic world.

Now, YA fiction has taken another turn. Lightly back to the Harry Potter days yet with an edge and not set in modern day. Instead of being set in the future, or in today’s world many stories are set in the past when dragons ruled the skies and tyrant kings ruled the lands. This may be due to the success of Game of Thrones and The House of the Dragon. These novels not only set you in a place that allows you to fully escape everyday lfe they take you on a peril filled journey as you follow the protagonist through risky adventures, often in pursuit of taking out the bad guys.

This makes them sound simplistic, they’re not. They’re intricate, detailed, magical and awe inspiring and one author that captures this genre perfectly is Sarah J Marrs.

If you read YA fiction you will have heard of Sarah J Marrs and you’re probably keen to get in on the action. However, she has written so many beautiful books it’s hard to know where to start. That’s where we come in.

A Beginner’s Guide to Sarah J Marrs

If you are new to Sarah J Marrs and want to start at the creation of her most popular world it’s best to start with the ACOTAR series. This acronym translates to A Court of Thorns and Roses.

Read the first three books.

  1. Book 1: A Court of Thorns and Roses
  2. Book 2: A Court of Mist and Fury
  3. Book 3: A Court of Wings and Ruin

Then read Assassin’s Blade, this is a set of prequel novellas to the Throne of Glass series (coming next) and they’ll help make the preceding novels make so much more sense.

Then read books 1- 7 (That’s all of them) of Throne of Glass. Books 5 and 6 are a tandem read and so much fun. You will love this.

What is a Tandem Read?

This is when you read two books at the same time to make the plots make sense. You will read one up to a certain point and then swap to the other. It’s a lot of fun and gives you insights that truly absorb you into the world the author has created.

After this jump back into the ACOTAR series with what’s commonly known as The Christmas Special, A Court of Frost and Starlight. Then continue with A Court of Silver Flames.

Finally, you can now read The Crescent Series.

We are confident you’ll enjoy every single book and many reputable bookstores have incredible offers to get you started with Sarah J Marrs on site right now!

As Sarah says, “My favourite thing in the world is curling up in bed on a rainy night with my dog sprawled across me.”

Thanks to Sarah we can now enjoy many nights like that!
