We took a trip to Haven’s Primrose Valley in Filey in peak season. As a single mum with three children, aged 8, 15 and 19 I thought I should choose a destination where they’d all benefit. I’ll admit, I’ve been a little bit of a snob over holiday parks like these in the past, but I must say, after giving this park a chance, I will definitely choose Haven again.
The Location
The location of the park is excellent, its in-between Bridlington and Scarborough and not far from supermarkets and life. Although the nearest town isn’t really walking distance there is so much on site that it doesn’t need to be. A little further afield is York, Malton, Flamingo Land and a range of attractions. It’s ideal and just off the A165.
The Caravan
Caravan’s have evolved incredibly since I holidayed in Skipsea with my cousins. Ours sported clean wrap around decking and all the modern conveniences we needed for a comfortable stay. From a dishwasher to an ensuite bathroom and a smart TV, we felt at home and didn’t feel squashed in together like sardines. Our caravan overlooked a shallow lake where we watched the seabirds on a morning and woke to glorious sunrises. We were also a five minute walk from a private access to the beach. We were far enough away from the pubs and amusements to enjoy relative peace while still being in walking distance.
The Park
We absolutely adored the Primrose Valley Park and the facilities, even in peak season, when it is very busy there’s still lots to do and the wait times aren’t very long. The bits we loved most are:
The Lakehouse Cafe
Gorgeous food and a beautiful setting with floor to ceiling windows and plenty to keep the children entertained outside and in. We adored the park outside, with climbing ropes and solid play equipment and as the weather was glorious we enjoyed many a latte, sat outside taking in the atmosphere. Staff were all very friendly and happy to help. There’s also a huge outdoor TV with a relaxed seating area for children. It was showing the original Wizard of Oz when we visited, and we all took ten minutes to enjoy the film.
The Fair
The fair is situated adjacent to the Lakeside cafe and this was a great place to visit on an evening, enjoy all the fun of a miniature fair with a few traditional rides, popcorn and candy floss and of course, some fairground games.

The Strip
The Strip, as we called it housed a fish and chip shop, a mini market, Papa John’s pizza, a Burger King, amusements, two entertainment complexes both showing shows at the same time, an indoor and outdoor swimming pool and an indoor play area. There is plenty to do and see, even without spending money. We particularly loved the glow shop where you can pick up glowing toys that look amazing on an evening and are a favourite with children. The indoor swimming pool has a lot of features to make it fun for everyone, while the changing facilities are clean and the outdoor pool is a dream.
Activity Packs
If you have younger children it is worth investing in a few activity packs, as they can enjoy a wide range of activities from Segway riding to treetop climbing, arts and crafts and kayaking. Sessions are not overbooked and the assistants on hand are friendly and patient while making the activities educational too.
The Beach
Just five minutes walk away down a sandy hill lies a great expanse of untouched vast sandy beach. As this is only used by those in the Haven Primrose Valley holiday park. We loved setting up a space and enjoying the beach as there was plenty of space for everyone. We spotted a lot of wildlife on the walk down, from rabbits to ducks and enjoyed a full day out just metres away from our holiday home without spending a penny.
In summary we thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Haven Primrose Valley and would definitely visit again. All needs are catered for and there is something to do for everyone, no matter what the age. There are so many attractions nearby from flamingo Land to Eden Camp and Sewerby Hall and gardens, while we were spoilt for choice for beaches.
If you’re feeling active, take a stroll along the beach (check tide times) to Filey, enjoy the crazy golf and playwark in Glen gardens then walk a little further for a small fair and rock pools. Filey Brigg and Country Park also has a lot to offer and is the perfect place to visit with children. It’s entirely possible to enjoy a full holiday at Primrose Valley without a car as there is so much to see and do. You won’t be disappointed.
